AI writes the drafts. The checks decide.
Every Prepdle question starts as a draft written by AI. A draft is published only if it passes every check below. If it fails one, it gets one rewrite. If it fails again, it's thrown out.

Seven checks, in order
Check 1: Format
The question, choices, figure, explanation and hints are checked against our format. The math has to render, the explanation has to end on the answer, and no hint can give the answer away.
Check 2: Not a repeat
It's compared with every question we have on the same skill. Too close to one of them, and it's rewritten.
Check 3: Solved blind, twice
Two separate solvers see only what you see: the passage, the figure, the question and the choices. No answer key. Both have to reach the key, and neither can find a second answer that works.
Check 4: Typed answers graded right
For questions where you type the answer, every way the solvers wrote it (like 3/4 and .75) has to be marked right.
Check 5: Read for a second meaning
A separate reader looks for anything a careful student could question: a second way to read it, a missing unit or rounding rule, an unstated constant, a figure that isn't described.
Check 6: Review against the skill
A reviewer checks it against our item-writing rules for that SAT skill: what it tests, how hard it is, and whether each wrong choice is a mistake a real student makes.
Check 7: Math recomputed in code
For Math, the answer and every number in the question are recomputed by running code, not by reading the work.
A draft that fails any check gets one rewrite with every finding, then goes through all seven again from scratch. A second failure rejects it. Each decision is written to a log.
When one gets through
- After you answer, every question has a Report a problem link.
- Reports from 3 different players pull a question out of practice, Live and future days.
- After 30 first answers, a question is also pulled if fewer than 15% get it right, or if more players pick one wrong choice than the right one.
- A pulled question comes back only after a person checks it. Otherwise it stays out.
The launch bank
The first 122 questions were written before these checks were automated. Each was solved blind, reviewed against the same rules, and had its Math keys computed in code. In November 2026 every one was read again for clarity, and every Math key was recomputed.
People ask
- Are these real SAT questions?
- No. They're written to match what each SAT skill tests and how it's asked. Past SAT questions belong to the College Board.
- Does a person write them?
- No. AI writes every draft. The checks above are run by code and by separate AI reviewers. A person decides on any question players pull.
- I found a mistake.
